SHOULD I BUY A HOT TUB?

The decision to purchase a hot tub will greatly depend on your lifestyle. Before making the decision, ask yourself:

1. Is my backyard or home the right size to accommodate a hot tub installation?
2. Could I benefit from fewer aches and pains, better sleep and reduced stress?
3. Will my family benefit from and use a hot tub?
4. Am I willing to invest in a longer-lasting, higher-quality hot tub?
5. Could I benefit from a nightly hydromassage?
6. Would increased cardiovascular health be beneficial to me?
7. Do I need a product that can help lower blood pressure and help me lose weight?

If you said yes to one or multiple questions, a hot tub might be right for you and your family. Speak with an expert at your local hot tub dealership to learn more about the prices, sizes and brands available to you.

HOW DO I CARE FOR A HOT TUB?

How you treat your hot tub will depend on the manufacturer and model. When you bought the hot tub, you should have received a set of detailed care instruction and cleaning guidelines. If not, you can speak with your hot tub dealership or the manufacturer for more information.

Most hot tubs should have their water tested once a week to ensure that the pH and chlorine levels are balanced. If the test reveals that the water is not balanced, add chemicals to treat the water. During this time, you should also rinse the filter and inspect the spa system for any damage or issues, including the cover and steps.

WHICH HOT TUB IS BEST FOR ME?

The right hot tub for you can depend on the size and layout of your backyard, immediate family members who will use the spa, short-term and long-term budget, and your personal preferences. Larger hot tubs that have five to seven seats, are generally best for those with a larger family, who love to entertain or have a bigger budget. Smaller hot tubs with two, three or four seats, are best for smaller families with less backyard space or a more modest budget.

WHAT IS HYDROTHERAPY?

Hydrotherapy is a popular water-based therapeutic technique that is widely used by physiotherapists and spa owners all across the world. The combined effect of heat, massage and buoyancy can help the body to relax and let go of built-up tension, while improved circulation and natural production of feel-good endorphins continue to help you feel more refreshed and revitalized than ever before.

The health benefits of regular hydrotherapy sessions can include:
• Fewer aches and pains
• Better sleep patterns
• Eased muscle tension
• Reduced feelings of stress
• Soothed joint pain
• Improved symptoms of arthritis

Hydrotherapy can also be useful for those recovering from a muscle or joint injury. If you’re considering using hydrotherapy throughout your recovery, speak with your physician first.

HOW MUCH DO HOT TUBS COST?

Hot tub prices can range from $5,000, to $18,000 or more. The price of a hot tub will depend on several factors, including:

• Brand
• Model
• Age
• Location
• Features
• Size
• Capacity
• Materials

Generally, hot tubs with a higher price point will offer a better quality, while those with a lower price point often offer a lower quality. While it may seem like a smart move to opt for a spa with a lower price point at first to save on costs, this can actually end up costing you more in the long run due to costly maintenance, care and repairs. Not to mention that the experience tends to be lesser as well, due to outdated, weak or missing features.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE THE HOT TUB WATER?

Your hot tub water should be completely changed once every three to four months. This frequency can change depending on how frequently it is used and how well it is cared for. Each time you change the water, you will need to drain the hot tub, clean the interior, inspect the components, refill the hot tub, and then treat with water care products. Keep in mind that you may have to change the water sooner rather than later, if the water becomes murky, foamy or cloudy.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE THE HOT TUB FILTER?

Much like changing water, the frequency by which you need to change your filters will largely depend on how well you take care of them. Your maintenance routine in there is perfect, just add between 6-12 months dependant on how well you take care of your filter. As for ongoing maintenance, you should aim to rinse it with water from the garden hose once every two weeks and soak it overnight in a filter cleaning solution once every two months. This can help to remove built-up debris and keep it in working order.

SHOULD I INSTALL MY POOL ABOVE OR BELOW GROUND?

Installing your pool above ground or below ground depends on your budget, lifestyle and backyard layout. Both installations have their own set of positives, but it will come down to your lifestyle on which you choose.

In-ground swimming pools
• More functional
• Better aesthetic
• Longer installation
• More expensive
• Lasts longer

Above-ground swimming pools
• Reduced risk of injury from slips and falls
• Reduced costs
• Easier to move locations
• Less invasive installation

SHOULD I BUY A POOL OR HOT TUB?

Deciding on a pool or hot tub will depend on your lifestyle, budget and personal preferences.

Pools
• Looking for a new approach to recreation, exercise or entertainment
• Enjoy entertaining friends and family
• Have a larger backyard
• Have a bigger budget with some wiggle room

Hot Tubs
• Looking to reduce stress
• In need of relief from aches and pains
• Wanting a new way to relax
• Modest to medium-sized budget
• Small or large backyard

Here at Midnight Sun, we don’t play favorites with pools and hot tubs. We know that they can both offer a wide range of benefits that differ from one to another. The question is, what’s stopping you from getting both? There are many spectacular pool and spa installations, some that spillover from one to the other. So you can go from a refreshing swim to a rejuvenating soak in a matter of seconds.

ARE SAUNAS SAFE?

Saunas can absolutely be safe, but it all depends on your health and how you use it. Before using a sauna or having one installed in your home, speak with your physician first to ensure it is safe for you to use. Once you receive your doctor’s seal of approval, you can hash out the details of a safe sauna session. You should always ensure that you are hydrated, drinking a glass of water before and after your session, and even bringing in water in a reusable bottle. Keep the temperature in a safe zone and listen to your body. If you begin to feel fatigued or light headed, slowly and carefully exit the sauna and sit down until you feel better.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN MY PATIO FURNITURE?

Most pieces of patio furniture can be cleaned with a rag or sponge and warm, soapy water. Glass surfaced should be cleaned with a paper towel and glass cleaner. Most fabrics can be washed with soap and water from the hose, and then hung to dry on a clothesline or left in the sun to dry.
